who?

fourth november | five post meridiem

Uh gee not to sound smug or anything

But I said exactly this in November 99 to those piling into caravans on their way up to Seattle. Four years later, and its still necessary to preface any article slightly critical of the movement with Im a giant puppet-packing pinko, but Grr perhaps I am too bitter; Im glad to see articles like this appearing, but it seems to be dawning on the far left way too slowly how easily the only bulwark they can imagine against encroaching capital the high colonialist ideal of national sovereignty grades into the far rights messianic dream of unilateral dominance. The cruelest irony being that three of these last four years were administered by (to use a favorite Bushism) folks whove done more than anyone since McKinley to make this dream an explicit, acknowledged reality. The lefts dream of democratic national sovereignty seems always burdened with the caveat of an ideal nation, one run by us and one that is, to put it mildly, in conflict with the reality of both the practical and ideological drift of the past 20+ years.

Shoulder-to-shoulder on trade! Shoulder-to-shoulder on trade! (That one never gets old heh.)
